SUMMER 2013

Here are descriptions of where Mel will be conducting workshops in the summer of 2013. For specific information including class availability, class description, registration, tuition, accommodations, etc., please contact the individual workshop organizers listed on our ' 13 Contact Info page.

Summer begins with Mel heading to West Jefferson, North Carolina.  He is looking forward to teaching a three-day, outdoor on location workshop in late June at the Florence Thomas Art School. West Jefferson is located in Ashe County in the midst of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and is surrounded by fir and pine forests.  Close by is the New River, which is the second oldest river in the world!  There is an arts district in historic downtown and it is the site of 15 murals that creates a walking tour.  Join Mel in North Carolina and start your summer off with a watercolor workshop!

A mid-summer, plein air painting holiday in beautiful Cornwall, England...what could be better?  Cornwall is located in the far west of Great Britain and has the longest stretch of continuous coastline (300 miles!) in all of  Britain.  Cornish fishing villages dot the coastline with their harbors and lovely English gardens.  Natural beauty is everywhere you look and ideal painting locations abound... from the countryside with its stunning landscapes to dramatic coves, bays, cliffs, and moorland.  Cornwall is simply picture postcard perfect! Flying Colors Art Workshops organizes all of Mel's workshops in Europe and, as always, chooses quality, comfortable accommodations. Contact  Flying Colors (see Contact Info. page) for a specific itinerary on this July workshop in Cornwall.

Mel's summer schedule continues in Cape Porpoise, Maine where Mel will be conducting a five-day, outdoor on location workshop in early August.  Cape Porpoise is a quiet fishing village located a couple of miles north of Kennebunkport renowned for its quaint shops, restaurants, and galleries.  There are numerous painting locales to choose from...the busy lobster fishing village of Biddeford Pool, Turbats Creek, and breakers at Fortune's Rock.  There are many restaurants offering delicious seafood.  Enjoy an after-supper stroll to the harbor and the fishing pier with its magnificent view of the Goat Island Lighthouse, which sits just off the entrance to Cape Porpoise Harbor.  Join Mel on a relaxing watercolor workshop in Maine this summer!  We are organizing this workshop ourselves so contact us directly for specific information and registration.

Mel is looking forward to returning to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio in August to conduct a four-day workshop for the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center.  Named after the Cuyahoga River, which flows into Lake Erie, the town of Cuyahoga Falls borders Akron to the south and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to the northwest.  With its waterfalls, rolling hills, winding river scenery, and lush farmland, this 51-square mile park is the only national park in Ohio.  Founded in 1934, the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center is a non-profit organization which provides workshops, exhibitions, and 3000 square feet of gallery and classroom space to the arts community.  This workshop will consist of two days painting indoors and two days painting outdoors (weather permitting).  Call soon to register!
