MEL STABIN, AWS                   WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS

SUMMER 2016

Here are descriptions of where Mel will be conducting workshops in the summer of 2016. For specific info. including class availability, class description, registration, tuition, etc., please contact the individual workshop organizers listed on our '16 Contact Info page.

Summer begins with Mel heading to Stockbridge, Massachusetts in June where he will be conducting a five-day, outdoor on location workshop for IS183, Art School of the Berkshires, which is situated in the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts. Described by the beloved American illustrator Norman Rockwell as "the best of America, the best of New England," the quaint village of Stockbridge is a renowned art and cultural center famous for the beautiful Berkshire Botanical Gardens, Tanglewood Music Festival, and Norman Rockwell Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of original art by this great illustrator. There are galleries, historic homes, and gardens to visit as well as many walking and hiking trails in the Berkshire countryside. A great summer workshop awaits!

Paint Ireland with Mel in July in beautiful County Clare and the Isle of Inishmore. The west coast of Ireland is a place of natural beauty with a spectacular coastline, beautiful limestone landscapes, and green fields as far as you can see. We will be traveling to the picturesque towns of Ennistymon, Kinvara, and Killfenora. We will continue on to see the magnificent cliffs of Moher, which stretch for five miles along the Atlantic coast.  One of the highlights of this trip will be our sojourn to Inishmore, one of the Aran Islands. Inishmore, which means "the big island," is full of history with breathtaking cliffs, stone walls, churches, and a lighthouse. In addition to the incredible landscapes, which make for ideal plein air painting locations, you'll enjoy the wonderful charm and warm hospitality of the Irish people and you'll delight in seeing and experiencing all things Irish with the thatched roof cottages, cathedrals, castles, cozy pubs, and traditional Irish music.  This painting and sightseeing workshop is being organized by Flying Colors Art Workshops, which organizes all of Mel's workshops in Europe and, as always, chooses quality, comfortable accommodations. Needless to say, Ireland is one of Mel's favorites places to paint and makes for a wonderful summer painting holiday.

Mel's summer travels continue when he arrives in beautiful Rockland, Maine where he will conduct a five-day, outdoor on location workshop in July. Rockland is well known for its picturesque working waterfront and harbors, seaside villages, and lighthouses all of which make for great painting locales.  Take a leisurely walk on Rockland's historic Main Street with its art galleries and restaurants serving delicious lobster. Rockland is home to the famous Farnsworth Art Museum, which has exhibitions of work done by three generations of Wyeths.  It houses an extensive collection of temperas, watercolors, and dry brush paintings and drawings by Andrew Wyeth. Coastal Maine Art Workshops will be hosting this class. Rockland, which is located about two hours up the coast from Portland, is an ideal summer destination for a watercolor workshop! PLEASE NOTE: This workshop will take place from Tuesday through Saturday.

Mel always looks forward to returning to Greenville, New York where he will be conducting a five-day, studio and outdoor on location workshop for Hudson River Valley Art Workshops in the beginning of August. Situated in the foothills of the beautiful Catskill Mountains in Greene County, the town of Greenville offers sightseeing with its museums and historic sites as well as numerous hiking and walking trails. Hudson River Valley Art Workshops owns Greenville Arms 1889 Inn, a quaint bed & breakfast where students are welcome to stay. Offering a relaxing atmosphere and delicious meals, this charming Victorian inn has comfortable rooms, lovely grounds and gardens, and an outdoor pool. This popular workshop tends to fill up quickly so our suggestion is to register early!
